Children – Bronchitis, Allergies
Betty has been treating two of my children, ages 5 and 7. My five-year old son had bronchitis four times during the school year and was prescribed a dosage of antibiotics each time. He has been treated for allergies since he was three years old with an allergy specialist here in the desert, but we have noticed only slight improvement in two years. My seven year old has also been on the weekly allergy desensitizing shot treatment for the last four years. He has suffered from ear infections since he was very young. Two years ago he had four ear infections within three months. He was referred to the ear nose and throat specialist, who proceeded to recommend ear tubes. After the ear tubes placement the ear infections ceased. As soon as the ear tubes fell out, the ear infections returned. The ENT recommended a second set of ear tubes and removal of his adenoids and said that when this new set falls out he might run the risk of needing a third and fourth set. After years of Singular tablets, countless spoons of Claritin, albuterol ,breathing treatments and no significant differences I was at a breaking point. My boys couldn’t continue to be on all these pharmaceuticals, they were masking a problem and not addressing the root cause. Over the past few years, I experienced the adverse emotional and behavioral effects these medications had on both of my children. I was at a breaking point and knew there had to be something less invasive and safer that could help my children. I started researching online and came across Betty’s practice. Through four sessions of acupuncture, a modified diet, and natural Chinese herbs, my five year old has had a healthy summer. My seven year old has also had one session of acupuncture and natural Chinese herbs. The process has helped remove the heat in his body and I have noticed that it has improved his behavior. His once easily aggravated personality is now calm, kind and happy. Prior to the treatment he constantly complained that he was hot, at bedtime he would refuse to wear pjs or use a blanket, now he has started wearing his pjs and sometimes even tells me he needs a sheet to feel comfortable at night. I am hopeful that he will not need the third set of ear tubes as Betty is treating the root cause that will help prevent future ear procedures. I am grateful for the time and effort Betty has invested in my children. She is truly devoted to the health of her patients. R. L. Palm Desert Mom
Weight Loss – Gastroparesis
Whether it’s spring, summer, fall or winter….when you live in Coachella valley it’s almost always tank top season.
For women nearing or experiencing menopause that could mean increased difficulty in losing weight and struggling to get or stay into shape. The beauty of our sunny days gets lost behind sweat pants and sweat shirts and staying inside.I was tired of staying inside. For the past three years I struggled with digestive issues coupled with menopause. I experienced nearly every traditional test, scan, and probe throughout that 3 year time….only to be told that essentially everything in my gut was normal. Slow gut or gastroparesis was the only finding. The problem was ….I knew things were not normal. I read enough literature to believe I also had leaky gut; I belly bloated and in constant stomach and low back pain. My sleep patterns were miserable and the vicious cycle of stress was compounding any attempt to heal. I had eliminated so many foods from my diet and yet I continued to experience an inability to sleep through the night let alone find the desire to exercise.
I felt acupuncture could address my gastroparesis (slow gut) and potentially allow me to experience the normal GI flow that would enable me to exercise and lose weight.
I found Betty McDonald online after my HMO approved acupuncture. I knew that the reviews I read resonated with my needs. Prior clients indicated that Betty was compassionate, knowledgeable and thorough. My first visit with her April 29th not only confirmed the reviews but additionally changed my life in ways I never thought possible.
Betty instantly provided me the tools necessary to begin a different food plan and I started April 30th. She listened to my every complaint and ramble and had the ability to immediately figure out what had been missing in my quest to heal my gut.
Betty recommended that I watch Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. A documentary by Joe Cross on his quest to gain his health back. This is a must see and a life changer for me. I began day one of juicing on April 30th. I told myself I would take things a day at a time but secretly I hoped to make it the full 60 days. Betty was my greatest fan and stayed in contact with me throughout the duration of the 60 days and beyond in between my visits to her.
Juicing has become a daily part of my life and that was the greatest “learning experience” for me. I know how to move towards greater health and have the tools to do so with a strong foundation through juicing and nutrition. I know it starts and ends with me. M. M.
Fatigue and Women’s Hormones
In September 2015, I began seeing Betty because I was having daily migraines that lasted all day. Also, I was having severe pain at the back of my head that seemed to cause the migraines. Both my parents had migraines, so Betty thought there could be a genetic reason why I could still be having Migraines even though I am 63 years old. She started me on Dr. Lee’s progesterone cream to balance my hormones. Within a month I still had migraines, but they weren’t lasting all day and I reduced my headache meds by half. Then in November, I could feel the exact origination of the pain in the back of head. Betty then began electro-stimulation of my right greater occipital nerve at the base of my skull. WOW! The pain stopped for hours. I still have migraines but now I know what to do about them. Thank you Betty for all you’ve done. Anne B., Palm Desert, CA
“I should start by saying that I am 17 yrs old, and in High School. I was injured during a football game and was seeking help. My parents found Betty online. Although I was unsure about Acupuncture I was willing to try anything. Glad I did.
Not only did Betty make me feel comfortable and explain every step to me she went beyond what my expectations were. She researched my injury and even offered services beyond acupuncture, she treated me with Frequency Specific Microcurrent. She made every step to my recovery an easy and peaceful one. As much as I was nervous and unsure, I enjoyed speaking and gaining knowledge from her. She really cares, and I appreciate that!
I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking treatment.” (This review may also be found on Yelp). Michael A., Indio, CA
“I am first generation Vietnamese-American and it was a no brainer that I would get acupuncture for my morning sickness when I found out I was pregnant. I’m 30 and in my first trimester with my first baby. This was not my first experience as I have been treated for over use syndrome in my wrists, sinus headaches, and bunion foot problems from other places throughout my life. I found Betty through my insurance’s website and after four rounds of treatment, my constant all day and night morning sickness has been reduced down to only occasionally feeling nasesous when my stomach is empty and I need to eat. Crackers, ginger tea, and all the other advice I was given to help ease my morning sickness did not work. Acupuncture works for me and my holistic lifestyle. Betty is very sweet and is a wealth of knowledge. She cares and asks in depth questions to figure out what’s going on and what’s the best way to help. The weather started changing so she treated me for my sinuses and morning sickness in the same appointment. I will continue to see Betty as new ailments arise.” (This review may also be found on Yelp). Christina T., Thousand Palms, CA
“Betty McDonald is a pro. As a reluctant participant, I was very skeptical that acupuncture would do anything at all to help the pain in my knee due to arthritis. I had tried everything. Imagine my surprise when treatments from Betty not only worked but opened my eyes to a fantastic alternative to pain pills. Further, she really cares about her patients. She offers specific advice from a nutritional point of view that is right on the money. I highly recommend Betty McDonald.” (This review may also be found on Yelp). Chere E.
“I started having headaches and migraines in my early 20’s, and was diagnosed in 1997 with Fibromyalgia at the age of 39. My neurologist finally referred me out for acupuncture, and that was how I found Betty McDonald. These acupuncture treatments are the only treatment that I have found that has dramatically reduced the amount of migraines I suffer from. I would urge anyone that suffers from migraines and headaches to contact Betty McDonald for treatment as she has dramatically helped me.” Cathy L., Palm Desert, CA
Frequency Specific Micro-current (FSM)
“I was born extremely nearsighted with my left eye considerably weaker than the right. With lasik surgery and reading glasses at 60 I wasn’t complaining. I’ve lived with occasional bouts of “floaters,” too. Recently, my complete field of vision was covered with floaters, so I decided to check out my left eye’s vision by covering my right. The floaters were all coming from the left, but my real concern was the large solid black blind spot in the middle of my vision. I called an optometrist friend of mine and she asked me to come right in. She did the field of vision test and was insistent I see an ophthalmologist immediately. I got in that afternoon and was told I have leaking blood vessels, a form of Myopic Degeneration. It was scary to hear that this can develop into blindness, but the scariest part for me was the ophthalmologist’s answer for treatment: a SHOT IN THE EYE once a month for several months, eventually winding down to a few times a year. I get weak at the knees for any type of shot — in the arm, in the butt, but IN THE EYE? I freaked and actually considered how I’d get along with one eye for life.
The next day, my husband consulted with his personal health guru who said to get me to an acupuncturist. He found Betty, who also listed Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) as one of her forms of treatment. We talked to her and she immediately jumped on board as a member of the Help Jane Team. She had not treated anyone for optical issues with FSM, but she was willing to find out what she could do. She began contacting doctors throughout the U.S., who were experienced in this field and came up with a treatment for me. I was in her office within a week with great skepticism and hope. I also experienced my first acupuncture treatment that day. After the painless and peaceful treatment, I headed to my car where I called my husband. He asked if I had any results. I honestly hadn’t noticed since I hadn’t done my “self” eye exam. I put my phone down, covered my right eye and could not believe what I “didn’t” see: the big black blind spot in my left eye! And where were my floaters? I screamed with delight to him and immediately ran back into Betty’s office. She was with another patient. I didn’t care. I was elated when I told her there had been a miracle. I know it sounds corny, but it felt like a true miracle to me. She just smiled big and said she’d see me next week.
Did I mention I suffer from depression and anxiety and have been taking Lexipro for three years? She told me she wanted to get me off Lexipro and that made me nervous. I had attempted weaning myself off several months earlier, but depression quickly crept back in. But I quit cold turkey two weeks ago and have not had any sign of the old blues to which I was accustomed. The acupuncture and FSM treatments have opened a much happier and healthier life for me.”Jane F. Palm Desert, CA
