An allergy is an overreaction by the immune system to a normally harmless substance. Allergens can be seasonal and include pollens and grasses, foods, animal dander, mold, insect venom, and dust mites. The immune system initiates an inflammatory reaction in an attempt to eject the allergen. The result is sneezing, coughing, a stuffy head, and copious mucus, symptoms merely indicating a branch of the allergy, not the root cause.
The root of allergies lies in the strength of several organs: Lungs, Spleen, and Kidneys. If there is a constitutional weakness in any of these organs, the body will be susceptible to having allergic reactions. Simply treating the branch will not be enough.
Treating the root involves using certain acupuncture points and herbal formulas that will strengthen lung, spleen and kidney qi to reduce or eliminate symptoms completely.
By allowing the body to heal internally, there is no need to use antihistimines that have their own set of side effects such as drowsiness and dry mouth.
Acupuncture and herbs are very successful in treating conditions of the lung such as chronic bronchitis and asthma. My patients have been able to reduce, and in some cases eliminate dependency on inhalers.
Many children are beset by these same conditions and learn early on to depend on western medicine. In my practice, I use no-needle microcurrent to stimulate the acupuncture points and have great success. In one case, a mother no longer had to spend nights in the emergency room after her child was rushed there unable to breathe. Microcurrent is a successful alternative to strong medications that may have a far reaching effect on a child’s future health, not to mention the stress placed on a child who suddenly panics when he cannot breathe.
